Transformative Vessels (2025)
My Body is a Vessel
The piece ‘My body is a vessel’ (above) is based off my own dimensions and shaped into a foetal and protective position contrasting the grotesque and organic latex skins that are stretched and draped viscerally on top of it. I documented the piece on B&W film alongside my body, inspired by Helen Chadwick, to show the interaction between the physical and artistic body.
Process pieces
I first experimented with weaving suede for a skin like cellular effect on metal frames inspired by the Mire Lee Turbine Hall commission at the Tate Modern. This was well received however I was encouraged to go more bodily, resulting in me working with liquid latex.
I pour the latex skins myself and add bits of steel and aluminium before it sets. Through much experimenting of installation on my body and different metal frames I eventually made the above piece ‘My Body is a Vessel’. To be ecologically minded this piece was made of all the latex skins and metal from the previous pieces.
